You can sign up or sign in to NearbySpy with a Google account by clicking Continue with Google on the sign-in page. Google handles the password and we never see it. We receive only your verified email address, your name, and your profile photo from Google.

How Google sign-in works

  1. Click Continue with Google.
  2. Pick the Google account you want to use, or sign into Google if you are not already signed in.
  3. Approve the permissions screen the first time. We request basic profile info and your verified email and nothing more.
  4. You return to NearbySpy already authenticated. New users land in onboarding; returning users land on their dashboard.

Why use Google sign-in

  • One fewer password to manage. If your Google account uses two-factor authentication, that protection extends to your NearbySpy login.
  • Faster sign-up. No email verification step.
  • Verified email by default. The email Google gives us is already confirmed, so you skip the confirmation roundtrip.

Signing in with the wrong account

If you originally signed up with email and password, clicking Continue with Google with the same email will, in most cases, link the two methods on the matching account. If you originally signed up with a different Google account, signing in with another Google account creates a separate NearbySpy account. To avoid this, always pick the same Google account you used the first time.

Switching from Google to a password (or both)

If you started with Google but want to set a password as well, use the Forgot password link with your Google email. You will receive a reset link that lets you create a password, and afterwards both Google sign-in and password sign-in will work on the same account.

Common Google sign-in problems

  • "Account already exists with this email". You previously signed up with email and password using the same address. Sign in that way once, then re-link Google in your account settings.
  • Permission popup blocked. Your browser may be blocking the Google popup. Allow popups for NearbySpy and try again.
  • Stuck on a Google "redirecting" screen. Third-party cookies may be disabled. Either enable them for Google, or try a different browser session.
  • Wrong account selected. Sign out of Google entirely, then click Continue with Google again to be prompted to choose.

What we do (and do not) get from Google

NearbySpy receives your name, your verified email address, and your Google profile photo. We do not read your Gmail, your Calendar, your Contacts, or your Drive. You can revoke our access at any time from your Google account's Security settings. Revoking access means you will need to set a NearbySpy password to sign back in.
