Profile
Your name, photo, and contact details appear inside any Case where you are a Client. Keep your name accurate so signed documents and Case records match the person you actually are. A profile photo is optional but helps your Investigator recognize you on a video call.
Email and password
You can change your email address from the Account section. After changing, confirm the new address from the verification email we send. To change your password, choose a new one that follows the rules in Password rules and keeping your account secure. If you signed up through Google, your password is managed by Google instead of NearbySpy. See Signing in with Google.
Phone number and verification
Your phone number is used for notifications and, in some flows, for one-time verification codes. If you stopped receiving codes, see Phone verification and OTP troubleshooting.
Notification preferences
You can choose how you receive updates about your Case:
- In-app notifications, which appear as a badge on the dashboard.
- Email notifications, sent to the address on your account.
- SMS notifications, where supported, for time-sensitive items such as scheduled video calls.
Turning off email does not turn off in-app updates. We recommend leaving at least one channel enabled so you do not miss a message about your Case.
Connected dashboards
If you also use a separate Investigator account, switching between roles is handled automatically based on which dashboard you sign into. To understand how the platform decides where to send you, see Why you land on Client vs Investigator dashboard.
Privacy and what your Investigator sees
Your Investigator sees the name, email, and phone number you provide, plus any photo you upload. They do not see your password, your billing details from any past transactions outside their Case, or messages you send to other Investigators in unrelated Cases. Your Case file is private to that Case team.
Closing your account
If you no longer need a Client account, contact support from the help link in your dashboard. We will walk you through what closing means for active Cases and any signed documents. See Contact form reasons and what to include.
